A Gentle Time

by Sr. Kay McMullen, SNDdeN

Such a gentle time –
We let the leaves fall,
all that red and brown and gold
scattering on the ground,
while the clouds gather us in
and we wait
for the dry creek bed
to be filled with rain.
We wait for all things
to be made
green again.

Every year –
winter, spring,
fire danger of summer,
then this gentle time comes
when we wait
to be made
green again.
