Reflection from Psalm 8

By Kay McMullen, SNDdeN (1939 – 2018)

O Holy, Holy One,
how majestic are your names in all the earth!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are we, scruffy humans, that you are mindful of us,
such bungling, difficult creatures, that you care for us,
Father, Mother, Spirit, Wisdom.

Yet you have made us to share in your divinity,
crowning us with dignity, love and creativity.
You have made us partners enjoying, respecting
and caring for your creation –
the dogs and cats and horses, sheep and cattle,
the animals of the forests, deserts and plains,
the birds of the air and the fish of the sea,
You, Almighty, Creator, Artist, Lover.

O Holy, Holy One,
God, Goddess, Yahweh, Allah.
How majestic are your names in all the earth!

So be it. Blessed be. Amen.
