The Sisters of Notre Dame opened Mother of Sorrows School in the burgeoning city of Los Angeles in 1948 and worked there till 1981.
Their annals reveal a few school facts:
November 8, 1961: Mother of Sorrows football team has done very well this year. Today, however, they met with a defeat from St. Albert's which eliminates them from the tournament. They have shown excellent sportsmanship throughout this season."
November 10, 1961: This was a a happy day for some pupils and a sad one for others. Father MacCarthy came to distribute the bane of a pupil's life…report cards. Thanks to the change in a Diocesan regulations they will be given only four times a year instead of the usual six. This system affords more time for the teacher to concentrate of teaching rather than testing so often."
